Franklin Street's Summer Rewrite: What's New On The West Side And Downtown

Two of Evansville's Applebee's, both Fazoli's, and Roppongi are gone or on their way out this year. In the same stretch of months, a homegrown pastry shop signed a Franklin Street lease, the Bazaar came back for another Saturday season, and downtown's 900 block booked festival after festival. The chain churn is happening on the East Side. The independent rebuild is happening on Franklin and Main.

If you already live here, that geography matters more than any single opening. Summer 2026 is the season the west side and downtown quietly stopped competing with the bypass strip malls and started running their own calendar.

Where The Churn Is, And Where The Rebuild Is

The 2026 closures cluster in one corridor. The openings cluster in another. Laid side by side, the pattern is hard to miss.

Corridor What's leaving What's arriving
East Side / Burkhardt / Green River Both Applebee's, Fazoli's on Weston, Roppongi on E. Indiana St (closing 7/31), Copper House (closing end of June)
